In response to this http://www.myextralife.com/2009/04/09/another-serious-conversation/ blog post:
I don't really like guerrilla advertising. I find it obtrusive and poorly targeted. (Much of advertising seems this way.) I believe that Christians, like the pastor in the documentary, are executing guerrilla advertising campaigns. They're trying to sell Christ, much in the same way a commercial is a tv or radio advertising campaign for Pepsi or XBox or whatever.
Why do Christians do it? They believe they are allowed. The US constitution allows free speech (though no one has to hear you as in what will happen if this comment is deleted). They have the freedom to say any fool thing they want. No one has to agree with them. They can also say it how and where they want within the bounds of law. It sucks, but so does almost all guerrilla advertising.
Why else? They do it out of a sense of compassion. They believe that all humans were destined for hell. We have all sinned and fall short of the law. It is the mercy of Christ that prevents Christians from being sent to hell. And it is out of desperate compassion, that the Christians try to sell Christ. They want what God wants, all to be saved.
Now it is good to teach right from wrong to kids. And teaching them not to judge others is also a noble virtue. However, knowing right from wrong is not sufficient for salvation. Christ alone is the means for salvation. When someone pays their taxes we don’t think of them as doing a great deed. Instead we think of them doing their duty. All good that we do is merely doing our duty to God. It is God then alone who can elevate our duties into good deeds.

About the founding of the country, (which seemed like a second thought tacked on to the first), the statement that the US is a nation founded on Christian principals is fundamentally correct. It is also true that being a Christian is not fundamental to being a citizen of the US. The law does not explicitly come from the Bible. It is right for it to be separate. However, the values of the founders were in accordance with Christian beliefs. In that way the founding of the country is based on Christian principals. I’m picking on the semantics. The founding may not be the effect of Christian principals, but has a strong correlation with Christian principals. Or a better statement would be “The US is a nation founded on Christian LIKE principals.”
